Maximum Rewards

Earn a Big Welcome Bonus

A single welcome bonus is the fastest, highest-value reward you can earn — often worth a round-trip flight or several hotel nights for spending you were going to do anyway.

Disclosure: This site contains affiliate links. If you apply through one of my links and are approved, I may earn a commission at no cost to you. This does not influence which cards I feature. Offers and terms change often and depend on approval — always verify current terms, APR, and fees on the issuer's official page before applying. I can't guarantee approval or any specific offer.

A sign-up bonus (also called a welcome offer) is a large lump of points, miles, or cash back you earn for opening a new card and spending a set amount within the first few months. It is, dollar for dollar, the best return in the entire rewards world — far more than you'll earn from everyday spending in a year.

What to look for

01

A bonus you can actually hit

Every bonus has a minimum spend (e.g. $4,000 in 3 months). Only chase it if you can meet that through normal spending — never overspend to earn points.

02

Transferable points

Flexible points (the kind you can move to airlines and hotels) are usually worth more than a fixed cash value. They give you the most options later.

03

Annual fee vs. value

Premium cards charge a fee but pay the biggest bonuses and credits. Do the math: if the first-year value beats the fee, it's worth it.

04

Your approval odds

Big bonuses come from cards that want good credit. Apply when your credit is in shape — and know some issuers limit how many new cards you can open.

Why the bonus matters most

One welcome bonus can be worth $900–$2,000 in premium travel — more than most people earn from a full year of regular card spending. That's why timing one or two new cards a year is the core of every smart rewards strategy.

My recommended cards

Here's where I list the welcome offers I think are the strongest right now. Offers change constantly, so I keep this current and link straight to each issuer's official application.

Common questions

How fast do I get the bonus?

Usually 1–2 statement cycles after you hit the minimum spend — so plan for it to arrive a couple of months after you finish the required spending.

Will applying hurt my credit?

A new application causes a small, temporary dip from the credit check. Paying on time and keeping balances low rebuilds it quickly. Don't apply for many cards at once.

Can I earn the same bonus twice?

Sometimes, but issuers have rules about how often you can receive a welcome offer on the same card. I'll flag those when they apply.

Not sure which bonus fits you?

Tell me your typical monthly spending and I'll tell you which welcome offer you can realistically hit — and which one's worth the most.
